Mapping Your Photos with Google Maps

Since the introduction of the Google Maps API, many sites have added functionality that allow you to "Google map" your photos to the geo-location they were taken or where they may have location-based significance. This post will serve as a roundup of all sites that facilitate this or that help the process along. If I've missed any sites/tools that might be out there, please post a comment letting others know.

GPS Photo Linker is another nice tool to locate your photos along GPS tracks and complete their EXIF data with coordinate information.

Yuan.CC Maps is another tool to map photos. It's a mashup of Google Maps,Yahoo Maps, and UrMap. Flickr users can use it to geotag their photos at one-click. It can also display GPS tracks on GMap to help users to locate their photos.

The WWMX tools from Microsoft Research let you geotag photos by interpolating their EXIF timestamps along a GPS tracklog, or simply by dropping them on a MapPoint Web Service map.

I've only tried them for locations in Canada and the US. It's easy to use, and best of all, free.

wayfaring was a leader and used to be great but they have stopped supporting the site.

For example, they are still using API #1 (so no europe roads) and the server often returns error messages.

At one point admin posted that they had so many features that weren't used they saw no need to produce new features. When asked several times for a list of unused features (as we may have not known they existed),there was silence.

The developers have moved on and I wish them luck.

VirtualGlobeTrotting also allows users to attach their pictures to map locations. 1770 pictures submitted to date. Here is a typical example.

Hi there!

We build a new flickr to google maps app: http://geoslideshow.com

Revive and share your photos through geo-enabled slideshows.

You can create trails with your photos using Google Maps and Flickr!
Geoslideshow puts your photos on a map and gives you a ride trough the different locations where your photos were taken!

Curious? Take the tour: http://geoslideshow.com/tour/

You've got multiple options:
* Static: a Google Map with photos
* Dynamic: the map moves from one photo to another!
* KML: in one click you can create KML files of your trails.

Some examples:
* London fireworks: geoslideshow.com/b92178
* Singapore trip: geoslideshow.com/dbca5e
* San Diego visit: geoslideshow.com/d8f97f
* The Great Wall: geoslideshow.com/8ae107
