The Geography of Fiction

The Book Globe is a new Google Map that is designed to help you find novels that are set in specific locations. To get the ball rolling The Book Globe has mapped all the books that have won or been shortlisted for The Booker Prize.

The Booker Prize is awarded each year for the best original full-length novel, written in the English language. Only writers who are from the Commonwealth of Nations, Ireland, or Zimbabwe are eligible for the prize. The map therefore currently shows more novels set in Commonwealth countries than in other countries. However The Book Globe plans to broaden the map to non-Booker Prize novels and includes an option for users to submit other novels via e-mail or Twitter.

The LitMap is another Google Map that is mapping books by where they take place or the place that they are about. The LitMap maps any kind of literature, both fiction and non-fiction that can be associated with a specific geographic location.

Like The Book Globe the LitMap includes an option for users to submit books to the map.
